How to make a clean cut on the HPS Silicone Hoses

One of the questions our customers ask is how to make a clean cut on silicone hose. To make the cut, you will need:

  • Hose clamp
  • Sharp blade
  • Lighter
  • Ruler

This will involve sharp tools and open flame, so be sure to take precautions and work safely!

Measure the correct length you need to cut, and place the clamp to that length. Make sure the clamp is straight, and tighten it down.

Lightly cut along the edge of the clamp, using it as a guide. The trick is to rotate the hose while keeping the blade in place.

When you get to the bolt on the clamp, loosen the clamp enough to rotate it away from the area that needs to be cut, and re-tighten.

Once the hose has been cut off, check for frayed fibers, and use a lighter to clean them up if there are any. The flame doesn't need to be in direct contact with the hose (about 2-3 inches away is good). Move the lighter just slowly enough so that the heat cleans up the threads.
